New cards in the works

design process

I’ve been very busy the last month with a custom order for wedding invitations. I’m shipping them out today and I hope they are able to properly convey the joy of this occasion for the happy couple and their families.

What I’ve been working on in the meantime is a new colection of cards, somethign a little more somber, a little more literary. I have FINALLY figured out how to make a birthday card that isn’t lame or sappy. LOBSTERS!

lobster Telomeres are a chain of repeated nucleotides at the end of DNA strands that contain non-coding DNA. This region hinders the loss of important DNA from the chromosome ends during replication. Telomerase is an enzyme that repairs the region of a DNA strand known as telomeres. Lobsters make a steady amount of telomerase throughout their lives. It is posited that this might be one of the reasons for their longevity. Hence the well-wishing of aging like a lobster!

The others are literary:

First sentence of Franz Kafka’s, The Metamorphosis (in German, or course).

A little poster of Goethe, coiner of YOLO:goethe

and one of my favorite poems (Japanese):
